found and lost

So, while we all know what an amazing athlete Kaycey has become, she has really FOUND her "thing"--running. She likes almost all sports, but LOVES running. Kaycey even decided to RUN the Walk for Wishes 5K!! Running has really become something she enjoys, and she even joined the school cross country team (YES, our school has a cross country team for grades 3rd-8th--all Wisconsin Lutheran grade schools offer tons of sports and activities!) She was amazing, taking 35th place one meet. Mind you, 35th place was against all girls 3rd-6th grade girls. One meet her time was 12:19 (for a mile and a half). Yes, our eight year old runs faster than I ever did or will!!

Unfortunately, twice in the past week, she had some frightening moments as her heart raced, she had trouble breathing, chest pains, and pain in her back. Her pediatrician advised us to take her to the E.R. We chose to take her to Children's Urgent Care since she was in no distress by the time we were going. When she got to Urgent Care, there was NOTHING abnormal to be found--normal heart rate, they did xrays, normal pulse. She suffered episodes of what the doctors are calling "supraventricular tachycardia". While I'm not completely understanding it all, all I do know is this sports fanatic is on the bench until further notice, and she is none too pleased. So, now she has LOST her favorite things...NO activities--no gym, no recess, no sports (she had cross country meets and soccer games for this week), until she is seen by a cardiologist. The soonest she could get in is Oct. 8 (at first it was Oct. 23rd, but our pediatrician called and fought for an earlier appointment). Could it just be a lingering cold that has settled and won't go away? Could it be she's trying too hard? Could it be late effects from chemo, or something worse?

It's so unsettling not to know, I'm sure. I am praying for something very simple and treatable. Poor Kaycey, especially in the meantime.
