Roof of the porch to begin today!!

It should really start looking like a porch after this weekend, provided the weather cooperates!! We had bitter cold last weekend, and now this weekend is supposed to be unseasonably mild (45 degrees!!) and potential rain. That would make for a huge mess! There is still so much siding to do, but they couldn't do a whole lot of the front and side of the house with the porch until the porch roof was on, I think. And the garage side of the house couldn't be sided until the garage doors were on.

We are supposed to meet with a custom cabinet guy soon. We had looked at places like Menards, Home Depot, etc. but believe it or not, it costs less more often than not to have custom done. We have a couple spots in the house that would have to be custom made anyways, because of the unusual sizes of cabinets we need (at a home improvement store, cabinet sizes typically are in 3" increments--so, 6", 9", 12" and so on. For example, Our mudroom needs four 17" wide cubbies. So we would've had to have them custom made anyways.) We have told the custom guy we need them ready for mid March. Woohoo!! It doesn't mean we're moving in then....but it means move in day wouldn't be terribly far away. A few weeks from the time the cabinets were installed maybe, if everything goes well until then.

The third garage door was actually installed yesterday. We just need the service door and the house will be completely closed off, so that it could be locked up. The garage doors aren't "working" yet, they still need to finish that part of the job, as well as installing the keypads/remotes, or whatever else goes along with putting garage doors in (we hired someone to install the doors).

SO the siding and the porch are the big projects right now. Today I will be going to a different fireplace showroom to have them give me a bid on what I want. Mike needs to know exactly what we are getting so he can frame it out. The fireplace would be put in within a couple weeks!! We debated about not even having one, I just don't think we'll use it much, and the wall it will go on will mean it will take up room from the great room and the master bedroom closet. We figured though, that in 10 years if we didn't have a fireplace we'd regret it.

Hopefully I'll have porch roof pictures to post after the weekend!!

on house-I can't decide. It is

great.
